A handful of family homestays sit in and around the valley, about 26 km from Ban Gioc. Stay overnight to climb Pi Pha viewpoint at sunrise and walk the villages after the day-trippers leave. There are almost no restaurants in the valley: ask your host to cook dinner and bring cash.

Choosing where to stay

Hotels in the provincial centre

Plenty of choice near restaurants, markets and the bus station; good for your first and last nights, or as a base for day trips to Pac Bo and Phia Oac.

Stilt-house homestays in villages

Stay with Tay, Nung or Dao families, share home-cooked meals and village stories. Rooms are simple, with firm mattresses, sometimes in one large shared room.

Resorts and eco-lodges

Near Ban Gioc Waterfall and on the Phia Den tea hills; more comfort, good for families with young children.

Booking

  • visitcaobang.org provides information only and does not take bookings; contact accommodation providers directly.
  • For the rice harvest (September – October), weekends and holidays, book at least one to two weeks ahead.
  • Valley and remote-village homestays have few rooms; ask in advance about meals, hot water and road access.

Find the right stay for you

visitcaobang.org does not rank or promote any individual property. Choose a homestay or hotel that matches what matters to you.

Sleep

Ask whether beds have firm or soft mattresses, whether bedding is warm enough for cold highland nights, and whether rooms are private or shared.

Style

Close to nature – eco-style stilt houses and stone houses built with local materials – or comfortable, upscale hotels and resorts.

Atmosphere

Need rest? Pick somewhere quiet, away from main roads and karaoke bars. Prefer a lively vibe? Ask about bonfires, singing, parties and loud music – and what time they end.

Facilities

Private bathroom, hot water, wifi and phone signal; can cars and coaches reach the door?

Meals

Does the host cook for guests, and can they cater for vegetarian diets or allergies?

Trust

Prefer licensed accommodation; read recent reviews and look at guests’ own photos.

Good to know

Homestay tips

  • Weekends, public holidays, Lunar New Year and harvest season (Sep – Oct) are busy; contact your accommodation in advance.
  • Ask your host about meals; many homestays cook on request, so let them know in advance.
  • Border area: bring your passport so your host can register your stay.
  • Highland homestays are cold at night; pack warm layers and indoor slippers.
  • Respect your hosts’ routines: keep evenings quiet and ask before photographing altars or kitchens.
